Sometimes you have to make very hard decisions in life. The hardest ones are when you come to a fork in the road…
Adeline Cornelissen is a dutch dressage rider and was very excited about her performance at Rio 2016. According to her recent Facebook Post, “Adeline was delighted that everything was going according to the plans from a relaxed flight, stabling good to good training session”. Parzival is Adeline’s horse and they have been best friends since childhood. Together, they won many national and international awards that include individual silver and team bronze medals at London 2012. The horse was also feeling happy and fit in Rio. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, when Adeline realized that playing at Olympics was not bigger than saving her horse’s life after she found out that her horse fell ill due to an insect bite one day before the event at Rio 2016.
The news came from the vets who checked up on the horse and indicated that the horse was all good to go. As the fever went down however, there was a swelling in the jaw which was still a matter of concern for Adelinde at that time. There was a debate on Adeline’s mind on whether to risk her horse’s Life or go for her Olympic dream without considering Parzival’s life.
There are sometimes when your dream is in front of your eyes, but the circumstances and the timing are not right. In this case Adeline decided to quit the Olympic Games at Rio 2016 for the sake of her best friend’s life. Adeline posted on FaceBook, “Nothing was more important than saving Parzival’s life; not even an Olympic medal”. Adelinde’s horse Parzival has been her buddy all her life. She explained, “My horse has given everything for me his whole life and he does not deserve this… So I saluted and left the arena…..#two hearts.”
After reading about Adeline’s loyalty, kindness and love for her horse Parzival, don’t you agree that sometimes loved ones are more important than other events in your life?
Go and spend time with your loved ones because life is short. We need to spend each and every second loving and caring for each other.
