If you’re one of those people who likes to track your every step and workout, you’d better sprint to Nike to pick up a FuelBand — before it’s too late. According to CNET, Nike will stop their production of the slim workout band. The company reportedly fired 55 people on the FuelBand development team. Nike had an even skinnier version of the workout watch planned for fall, but is stopping all productions. The question is, why?
Apparently, Nike can’t keep up with always-changing software technology. Considering how many apps and smartphones out there are doing (essentially) what the FuelBand is doing, it makes sense Nike would re-focus their energies back on clothing and shoes. Don’t worry, though… Nike isn’t leaving us completely high and dry. Nike will still make the FuelBand SE, they just won’t make any new products.
“The Nike+FuelBand SE remains an important part of our business. We will continue to improve the Nike+ FuelBand App, launch new METALUXE colors and we will sell and support the Nike+ FuelBand SE for the foreseeable future,” Nike spokesman Brian Strong tells CNET.
We’re bummed Nike will no longer make new workout watches. At least we still have the FuelBand SE, though.
