Keke Palmer is killing the game right now! With her fearless attitude she reminds critics, “It’s NOT Your Job To Like Me, It’s Mine!”
A few weeks ago, Keke posted her bare skin shortly before Alicia Keys’ #NoMakeup campaign on Instagram. Critics immediately reacted in a harsh way. Some called Keke ‘ugly,’ made fun of her skin condition/scars, and talked about how she needs to continue wearing makeup. But she promptly clapped back at the critics with a response. Below is a snippet of what she wrote:
“I hate that everyone feels like this is a big deal. I didn’t even want to make a post for it, but I keep seeing people saying, “Leave Keke alone” or “Why are you being mean to Keke.” lol. I don’t want any of my supporters to get the wrong idea about who I am. Keke is fine because Keke knows who she is. Keke doesn’t care to conform to what people think she should be. #IDontBelongToYou – And Keke knows that love is the only real thing out there; everything else is delusion. When I see people being mean, I know its them and not me. I focus on who loves me, not who hates me… duh that’s why I’m so happy all the time, I choose it. Hahahahaha! I know I’m different, I’ve been different all my life. I have never been a follower. The truth is, anytime you’re being you and not following the status “quo”, you will be ridiculed. I say this to me and anyone watching the nasty things that are being said to me. From the acne scars on my skin, to the unwanted nude color on my toes hahahahaha. I can only be me and if its not enough for anyone else that’s alright with me! I can take any of the sticks and the stones thrown at me because I know the freedom of one loving thyself. #StopBeingDramatic #JustBeingHonest.”
We like how raw an open Keke is with her fans. She recently revealed a vulnerable post on her website to introduce a secret album titled ‘Waited To Exhale’, which she wrote at the age of 16 while she was on Nickelodeon.
She said: “It was almost as if I was ‘divergent’ (which we all are) and I was being ridiculed and not supported because the industry couldn’t understand it. I swallowed my voice for so long felt that I would not release this music because I was sick of the music business turning its back on me!!!”
She felt it was time to reflect on the music she wrote from the dark place she was in a long time ago. Palmer suffered from anxiety and would hold her breathe as a way to deal with her anxiety. Her album title, ‘Waited To Exhale’, is a homage to her newfound self-acceptance and confidence.
She stated, “You must believe in the dark so when the light comes on everything is seen clearly.” Check out her song on Sound Cloud:
