There are some very important lessons that we all can learn from what happened to Kim K. The most important one is that this can happen to you too…
You always hear about the dangers of traveling, but you never really expect anything bad to happen to you. I’m sure that’s what Kim Kardashian thought, after all, she has more resources and more security than all of us. Regardless of your feelings toward Kim, she is a mother, daughter, sister and wife and what happened to her is terrifying and sad no matter who you are. I’m telling you that what happened to her, can happen to you as well. Now, you may not have millions of dollars of jewels in your possession, but that does not mean you can’t get robbed or worse.
As much as I would like to say I could travel on my own, I know that’s simply not true. I can recall two separate situations while traveling overseas, thankfully I had my family with me. The first was when I was in grade school. I was walking on a beach in India and had fallen back behind my family. All of a sudden this man who was obviously drunk comes up from behind me and attempted to take me away from my family and drag me back towards the beach. Luckily, I was able to break free and run up to my family right when they noticed I was gone.
The second close call for me was on another trip overseas. We were on a ferry and my sister and I made eye contact with two men on the ferry. I knew when they wouldn’t look away from us that something was wrong. Once we exited the ferry, they continued to follow us, even in their car. Again, I had my family with me and when they realized that, they backed off. I don’t know what would have happened if I was alone and frankly I don’t want to consider the what if’s of that situation.
Whenever you are traveling, be aware of your surroundings. Stay with your group and ultimately stay safe! I just wanted to remind all of my fellow travelers out there to keep this in mind and if it takes what happened to Kim K to have others pay attention to the dangers of traveling, then so be it. It doesn’t matter if you’re a millionaire or simply a college student backpacking overseas, anything can happen. Keep the excitment of your wanderlust going, but always stay safe.
