Emily Blunt Scores on SNL…

The star of Girl On A Train is extremely talented. She is a dynamic actress, beautiful singer and has a knack for comedy. All of these talents were put on display when she hosted Saturday Night Live on October 16, 2016. Yes, Tom Hanks just hosted SNL, but don’t skip over this episode! Here’s what you would be missing…

Cold Open…

This debate sketch covered a lot of ground and kept it entertaining throughout. I never felt like the sketch was in danger of running out of steam. It poked fun at both candidates (maybe one more than the other) and covered all highlights from the debate.

Melanianade…

I was honestly super impressed by the quality of this filmed sketch. Yes, it was funny, but let’s talk about how SNL used an Emmy-nominated video for the framework for this sketch….and did it justice! Again, yes, funny, but the quality of this sketch was really what stood out to me and who doesn’t like Baldwin’s Trump impression (besides Trump of course…)?

Escorts…

The main take-away from this sketch about some off-color Escorts was Emily Blunt’s line, “Oopsie doopsie, I muffed it up again”. Or maybe more accurately, watching her try to contain her laughter while delivering the line.

Chonk…

The mock-commercial is a pretty reliable trope on SNL. This mock-commercial was for a line of clothing for “women of all shapes and sizes”. It nailed how often times, a clothing company will try to appear as if they are accepting of all body types, but inadvertently (or sometimes intentionally) make women feel worse about their “shape and size”.

Weekend Update…

The Weekend Update welcomed back fan-favorite guests, Laura Parsons and Olya Povlaski! Laura Parsons is a Disney Channel star who occasionally visits Weekend Update and may know more than what is age-appropriate for a Child’s News Anchor. Her bursts of adult information is always entertaining. Olya Povlaski is a Russian villager who started as a character who talked about the Olympics taking place in Russia. Olya has routinely returned to Weekend Update to comment on US-Russia relations. Olya had many thoughts on Trump’s relationship with Putin.

Melania Moments…

Melania Moments are SO reminiscent of Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts sketches and I love it. Nostalgia AND comedy!

Honda Robots…

This sketch deserves recognition if not only for the fact that Kate McKinnon almost broke on camera. The QUEEN of making her co-stars break on camera, almost broke because of Emily Blunt (see pictured).

Overall, Emily Blunt’s episode held an even amount of fantastic sketches and some okay sketches.  Saturday Night Live has exceptionally harsh critics who may say otherwise, but I think Emily Blunt has a Saturday Night Live debut that she should be proud of. Way to go!

What were your thoughts on the episode?
