Iconic R&B Singer Toni Braxton Biopic “Unbreak My Heart” to Premiere on Lifetime

Lifetime Entertainment has released the trailer for R&B iconic singer Toni Braxton’s authorized biopic Unbreak My Heart. The film and it’s title are based off of her 2014 memoir, which documents her rise to fame, chart-topping success, financial despairs, struggles with illness, family issues, divorce, and raising a son with Autism.

According to an interview Braxton did back in 2014 with Good Morning America, the 6 time Grammy winning legendary singer, goes deep in her book. She covers everything from her strict religious childhood upbringing, to the guilt of being the only sister from her family singing group that LaFace Records wanted to sign, and the truth of her embarrassing and disheartening abortion.

“All my life guilt, I think my parents just had a dream that all of us would make it simultaneously at the same time but when LA and Babyface just wanted me my parents were really upset about it. They just had dreams for their family, it put a little bar between my family.”-Toni Braxton

The featured cast will include Debbi Morgan (PowerAll My Children”) who will play Braxton’s fabulous mother, Evelyn, Gavin Houston (Guiding Light) as producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Cortney Scott Wright (Hiding in Plain Sight, Pet Therapy), Skye P. Marshall (Public Morals) and LaToya Franklyn (Subways) have also been cast as Braxton’s well-known sisters and fellow singers, Traci, Towanda and Trina Braxton. Tiffany Hines (Devious Maids) is supposed to  play Braxton’s now equally famous sister, singer Tamar Braxton while Grammy Award winner, Lex Scott Davis, will play the diva, Ms. Braxton herself. The TV movie, set for release on January 23, 2016, will be produced by Braxton and longtime friend, as she refers to him her “musical husband” Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. It is said that she will also appear in the film, but not as herself.

“The book was therapeutic for me …I felt terrible about myself. A lot of things I am revealing in the book.” -Toni Braxton

We all know how movies can somewhat differ from the book it is based on, but hopefully it will be as close call. A few months back Lifetime under went fire by fans for doing a not-so-good take on the biopic film of R&B princess Aaliyah. However, judging by the trailer, it looks like they did a pretty good job. Check out the official trailer and pictures from the cast line-up below, and let us know if you think they got it right this time around.
