For starters, this Beauty and the Beast is going to be rated PG-13.
Disney shows no signs of stopping with their live-action remakes. They’ve done Cinderella, the Jungle Book, they’re going to do Mulan, and there’s even talk about a The Lion King remake. The one that has everyone talking right now is the Beauty and the Beast. That film is coming out next year, and with it being right around the corner, more and more information is coming out. For right now, this is everything we know about the film.
1) It’s probably going to be much darker…
Amazingly enough, I think Disney is going to make this film much darker than it already was. It was pretty bad back in the day, if you think about it. The Gaston versus the Beast scene should have at least made that movie PG, but the 1991 film is rated G. However, the 2017 version of the film is already rated PG-13! That’s quite the jump! My guess would be that the Gaston versus Beast scene is probably much more violent and scary. However, Disney could take on a more authentic version of the tale, which is darker than Disney’s first version. You may want to view it yourself before taking your kids to see it.
2) Belle took after her father, and is an inventor…
That’s right! Disney and Emma Watson gave Belle a bit more backstory. Emma Watson said that she wasn’t satisfied with not having a proper reason why Belle was disliked by the people in the little town so much. “We created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor.” Emma Watson said. So the town thinks she’s a ‘funny girl’ because she’s more intelligent than the average person? Sounds about right.
3) All the beloved characters are still there (…almost?)
Disney released images of Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, and Plumette, the feather-duster. However, there was no Chip, Mrs. Potts son. That doesn’t mean Chip won’t appear in the film, but he may not. It’s a possibility, especially with how Disney is apparently trying to make this film more adult. However, most everyone is still there. Belle’s father, Gaston, and most, if not all, of the singing furniture.
