The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt creator and Sisters star Tina Fey is not only a comedian who makes us laugh, but one great actress.
Tina Fey is one smart cookie and when she heard of an article in 2011’s New York Times about a journalist whose memoir was called the Taliban Shuffle, she was on it. A writer from the times wrote that the journalist, Kim Barker had depicted herself as a sort of Tina Fey character. This had Tina Fey out there and convinced producer Lorne Michaels and Paramount to option the book for a movie. The movie adaption was called, Whiskey Tango Fox Trot. Now, it is the journalist Kim Barker who works for the Times.
Kim Barker shared how she felt about the 30 Rock actress who portrayed her in the film as well as won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor her Afghanistan-war-focused movie. Barker had this to say about Tina Fey to the Huffington Post. Barker said, “I do think we have similar senses of humor.” She went on to say, “You know, she’s funnier obviously, because she’s Tina Fey, but we have similar senses of humor.” Barker said that the Whiskey Tango Fox Trot actress has been gracious with her. Meanwhile, Fey has been frustrated about the movie reviews as not only did she star in the movie, but produced it.
Barker also said “I was not surprised by the sexism I read in some of the reviews.” She explained that she felt the critics were not pleased with a female lead. She said, “People saying, Oh, it’s Eat, Pray, Love with guns. That was frustrating to me because I deliberately wrote an anti-Eat, Pray, Love.” Tina Fey was asked about her role in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and if she could do what Barker did. Tina stated, “I think I’m brave about some things and a huge coward in other ways,” To go to places where there is real jeopardy like that, with bombs and snipers? No, I don’t think I could do what Kim did. My fake bravery is talking in front of a bunch of people who might hate it.”
The Saturday Night Live comedian and first head female writer of the show has been on a roll since her nine-year stint on SNL. After her movie, Mean Girls she has had on hit after the other. Fey has inspired many other like-minded comedic women such as Kristen Wiig, Lena Dunham, Melissa McCarthy, Mindy Kaling, Amy Schumer and more. Amy Poehler who calls Fey her comedy wife has had a strong friendship since they played Palin and Hilary Clinton on SNL in 2007. Prior to Whisky tango foxtrot they had their comedy Sisters which was absolutely hilarious. I love Tina Fey’s sense of humor from SNL to hosting the Golden Globes with Poehler. Are you a fan of Tina Fey?
