If you’re a woman of color, you’re not represented enough in the mass media. Finally, we found someone who addressed that issue…
From as long as I can remember, I rarely found people who looked like me on television or magazines. I do realize that things are definitely changing these days, but a huge problem a lot of us girls in the blogger community face are the lack of stock photos for women of color, particularly African-American women or even Afro-Latinas.
I face difficulty finding pictures of Latinas of my resemblance in stock images. When you do a quick Google search for a Latina stock image, the first thing that pops up is a light-skinned Latina. I’m melanated so that won’t work. Not many people are aware, but Latinas come in all races and skin colors. Hence my struggle in finding images.
I was so happy to find through my blogger tribe CreateHerStock, a collection of stock images that feature women of color and I have been using them ever since. CreateHer Stock is “the place to be for quality stock images of women of color.”
Bloggers of color can rejoice because we have found the solution to our blogger girl problems. No more having to search “black woman stock image” with Google. This is our spot. Thanks to CreateHerStock.com.
The founder Neosha Gardner, faced a similar problem and “had major trouble with searching for authentic stock photography that featured Black women. I took my love for design, creativity, blogging and photography and chose to create this platform – for us, by us. CreateHER Stock was born and we launched in the summer of 2015.” -Neosha Gardner
