The Single’s Guide To Surviving The Holidays

surviving the holidays

In a world full of people it can still be lonely if you are single around the holidays…

The holidays are here and it can be a stressful time especially if you’re single. While this may not bother you any other time of the year, sometimes the holidays can be tough. If you’re a little apprehensive about being alone for the holidays, here are some tips to make it to January.

1. Friends and Family

The holidays are the perfect time to have a forgiving heart and mend relationships with friends and family members. If there’s one time of the year to take stock and build a stronger bond, it’s now. Take the first step and pick up the phone or go old school by writing a heartfelt letter with a pen and paper.

2. Downsize

Who says spring cleaning needs to be done in the spring? You can roll up your sleeves and start cleaning out your closets and drawers. There are plenty of organizations that are looking for gently worn coats and winter wear to give to those less fortunate. An added bonus is you’ll create room for new wardrobe purchases.

3. Treat Yourself

Why wait for someone else to spoil you when you can do it yourself? Take a little time out during the holidays to focus on doing something special for yourself. Plan a spa day. Buy that special dress you’ve had your eyes on. Go away somewhere. So what you’re by yourself? This is all about YOU!

4. Holiday Job

How about making some extra money this holiday season? You can pick up some seasonal work at the mall giving you a chance to have the holiday spirit rub off on you by being around other people. Many retail stores are looking to hire extra people to pick up late-night or early-morning shifts.

5. Please Your Stomach

If you’re like a lot of other people, you watch what you eat throughout the year. The holidays are a time to ease up on the dietary restrictions and satisfy your taste buds. As long as you don’t go overboard and kill an entire cheesecake and tub of ice cream by yourself in one sitting, indulge in a treat or two that you’ve denied yourself all year.
