Why Is Dark Skin Foundation So Hard to Find

Dark Skin Foundation

Finding the right makeup or foundation for dark skin can be exceptionally difficult since many cosmetic lines are designed with lighter skin tones. Why can’t makeup companies create a  true dark skin foundation for dark skin women?

One woman shared her frustrations about the absence of a true dark skin foundation at the makeup counters. She shares her disastrous make-over at the make-up counter when searching to find that perfect dark skin foundation instead of going to the local stores that have foundations that do not match her skin tone. Of course when the make-up artist finishes, she was told how great she looks only to find that once she goes outside, the foundation color was all wrong.

Her research for the right dark skin foundation includes some reviews on various companies that match a wider variety of dark skin types for women of color. Fashion Fair is line that was designed to provide the right makeup for women of color. It was started in the 1970’s after realizing there was big money to be made. Even though Fashion Fair paved the way it wasn’t until the last 20 or so years that other companies jumped on board with wide selections. For many women there are still a limited amount of manufacturers that have many options for women with dark skin.

Dark Skin Foundation for Dark Skin Women Brands:

No matter what your skin tone is foundations need to reflect colors that match skin that is for all seasons such as summer versus winter. Some companies that have darker skin color foundations are Cover FX, MAC, Maybelline and Touche Eclat. Now, other brands that have produced much darker shades of the spectrum include Becca and Tom Ford, but finding the right dark skin foundation can be costly.

It’s unfortunate that society has taken so long to get on board with having darker skin foundations. Of course they have come a long way over the years, but it was a long road. I have an olive skin and it too changes quite dramatically when I get in the sun. I tend to get very dark, but still have that olive hue. I have the worst time finding foundation as well and get frustrated. One of my favorite brands is MAC.  They have a nice array of skin tone options for my complexion.

Do you have problems finding dark skin foundation to match your skin tone? Hopefully I helped you with some brands that carry a wider variety of tones. Let us know if HerDaily was helpful.
