Here at Her Daily, we’re obsessed with fearless women. We love how our favorite ladies can rock a pair of killer heels… while changing the world. Or confess they secretly like to stay at home with a glass of wine (sans bra) instead of going out. Right now, we can’t get enough of Women’s eNews founder Rita Henley Jensen. Here’s why:
1. Rita overcame an abusive relationship before starting her business. She took her two kids (ages 18 months and almost six, at the time) and left her abusive husband to go back to school, surviving off welfare. Rita graduated from Ohio State University — and then earned her Master’s Degree in journalism from Columbia University.
2. She is the founder of Women’s eNews, an nonprofit online news source dedicated to women. According to the site, Women’s eNews has received over 35 awards since their founding in 2000. Also, in 2013, Forbes included the site as one of the “100 Best Websites for Women” on their yearly list.
3. Rita’s an amazing writer. Rita was honored with the Exceptional Women in Publishing award, a yearly award first given to Gloria Steinem. She also has 31 other journalism awards. Rita’s also worked at The New York Times, CNN, ABC News, Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune.
Rita is such a strong and fearless woman! We can’t believe she managed to get out of such an abusive relationship — and go on to be a founder of such an amazing company. We love her dedication women and we’re such huge fans of Women’s eNews.
