Spring clean your diet in four easy steps by removing unhealthy foods from your kitchen
Spring is a great time to take a hard look at your eating habits and make some changes to refresh and renew your health goals. Clean out your refrigerator and pantry to get rid of unhealthy snacks, empty calorie processed foods, condiments filled with sugars and chemicals, and get a clean slate to start a healthy lifestyle change.
Here are 4 of my favorite tips to spring clean your diet by cleaning out your kitchen and cleaning UP your eating habits this May. Start by going through your kitchen and pulling everything out to take a good hard look at what you buy, and what is in your home. Take a discerning eye to the ingredients listed and look for a short list of ingredients of things that you recognize – i.e. no long chemical sounding preservatives. An important place many of these can be hiding is your salad dressing, jam, barbecue sauce and other condiments.
Another important step to a cleaner diet is making sure to drink plenty of water. Water is essential to hydration, for bright skin and healthy hair, and for keeping our metabolism moving. Aim for 3-4 liters of water a day…which can sound like a lot, but especially in the hot summer months, our bodies need it!
If you are just starting out on your healthy eating journey, a good place to begin is by eliminating processed, packaged foods and shopping the perimeter of the grocery store to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meats.
Finally, challenge yourself to eat a vegetable at every meal to stock up on the ultimate super food – leafy greens! Your body needs the nutrients, vitamins and minerals from vegetables, and making it a goal to eat one at every meal will help you get all those servings of greens.
